• On April 7, Gaafar el-Nimeiry, the President of Sudan, while visiting Egypt was thrown out of office by a military coup advocated by Col. Muammar Khadafy of Libya.
• On April 11, Enver Hodja the leader of the small communist state of Albania died. He founded the republic and ruled since 1946.
• On April 15, Japanese Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone appealed to Japanese citizens to buy foreign goods to help remedy the trade crisis particularly with the US.
• And the number one song ten years ago this week was co-written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. It featured the collaboration of forty-five artists who all came together to raise money for famine-stricken Africa. On Good Friday, April 5, 1985 at 3:50pm GMT, 5,000 radio stations around the world simultaneously played this song, which is of course "We Are The World" by USA For Africa.
