Donnas, Ben Lee, Phantom Planet To Cover Teen Films from MTV Online
The sins of decades past really can come back to haunt you, as the Donnas, Ben Lee and Phantom Planet can attest to -- as they are planning to contribute covers of songs from their favorite '80s films to a new compilation, "In Their Eyes: '90s Teen Bands Vs. '80s Teen Movies." The initial offering from Rhino's new Cheap Date imprint, "In Their Eyes" also features cuts from the Stinky Puffs, the Gadjits and the Grown-Ups, in addition to other, less-famous teenage bands, including Marigold, Dyslexic Crush and the Knock-Ups. One group even came to be on the album via the Internet, as the Los Angeles-based the English League won a web-solicited demo contest that earned it a spot on the record with its cover of Oingo Boingo's "Weird Science." While most of the artists have already submitted tracks, some -- including the Donnas and Ben Lee -- are still working on their songs, according to a spokesman for Rhino. "In Their Eyes" is slated to arrive in stores on October 20. |
