The Donnas "Rock 'n' Roll Machine" b/w "Speeding Back to My Baby" by Michael Spencer Day
Under the guidance of the fifth Donna, Donna D, the group has undergone a transformation into a glam band ala the Runaways. And with their move to Lookout, "Rock 'n' Roll Machine" is poised to be the new teenage anthem. I mean, you hear great songs all the time, but this one has got what it takes to be a hit. It's infectious and simple with great teen rebellion lyrics. "'Cause I don't care about going to school / And I don't care about having friends / And I don't care 'cause I'm a rock 'n' roll machine." Considering that the majority of artists that make it to the big time are really piss poor, I'd love to see the Donnas strike gold. Ace Frehley's "Speeding Back to My Baby" is a perfect flipside. And if the alteration of the lyric "She's my only girl" to "He's my only girl" is indicative of anything, future groupies watch out. "It's Saturday night and I'm looking for some party action."
