Greed All About It

One of the best books on the decline and coma of Hollywood is Ian Grey's Sex, Stupidity And Greed. Ian tears off that thick Cybil Shepherd gauze that the film industry dresses itself in and sticks to the philosophy, "IF YOU CAN'T SAY SOMETHING SKEPTICAL, DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL." Check out what Ian has to say about the year in film then run, trample, scratch, bite, and claw your way to a bookstore to buy his book. NOW.

I'd love to say something deliciously witty and scathing about The Year in Movies but, um, I can't much recall most of them, to say nothing of saying much about them. I think '99 will be (partially) remembered as The Year the Studios Got Smart Enough to be Totally Cynical about Audiences. That is, they figured out that it's kinda important to lace films with tantalizing snippets of semi-content in order to make the masses feel like they're watching something sort of. So we don't get brain-stunner crap like Con Air or Armageddon, we get...um, whatever I saw this year. Still, I hate to complain, so here's my list of the Best Films of 1999:

1. THE MATRIX

best regards,
Ian
